Our cruise line is known for Mediterranean glamour and style, from our European inspired décor to our fleet's Godmother, screen legend Sophia Loren. When you sail with MSC Cruises you'll enjoy a truly international experience with the opportunity to meet travelers from around the world.

3. ONE-OF -A-KIND ITINERARIES MSC

pushing drinks--only servers fulfilling wishes. And our serene MSC Aurea Spa offers soothing Balinese treatments in a tranquil
Zen-like atmosphere.

6. FRESH INTERNATIONAL CUISINE
Guests enjoy a variety of delicious dining choices, from regional Mediterranean specialties to classic American favorites. In addition to our elegant main restaurants and casual eateries such as pizzerias, our contemporary ships also offer specialty dining ranging from sushi bars to Tex Mex and sophisticated Asian fusion restaurants.

Guests, travel agents and the press agree, we have some of the finest entertainment at sea, with our own brand of surreal theatricality. In addition to a different show each evening, we offer live music from piano to jazz and classical throughout the ship.

8. SPOTLESS SHIPS, IMPECCABLE DÉCOR
The atmosphere on our ships is one of understated elegance with fine artwork, flowing design and open vistas offering stunning views. Our public rooms boast some of the highest space-to-guest ratios at sea. And our hallmark is that we always exceed the white-glove test--our ships are among the cleanest afloat.

Our signature Kids Sail Free program plus special rates for kids 12-17, makes MSC Cruises one of the best year-round values in cruising. Add to this our complimentary Kids Clubs and captivating play areas, plus a Teen Club and special high-seas hangouts just for them, and you have a fantastic and affordable vacation for all ages.

msc_cruises.jpg

Countdown to the May Arrival of the Newest Fantasia-Class Ship

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2012) - When MSC Divina joins the MSC Cruises fleet in May, she will take the line's flagship Fantasia-class of ships to another level.

Named in honor of MSC Cruises' "godmother," Italian film icon Sophia Loren, and with decks named after the Gods of Ancient Greece, MSC Divina will feature several design enhancements that make her truly a "divine goddess," as MSC Cruises continues its successful partnership with award-winning De Jorio Design International.

Not All Ships or Cruise Lines Are Alike

I read this letter below by Dan Hanrahan the President of Celebrity Cruises. I thought it was important to share it with you . . .

    dan_hanrahan.jpg

    "To Our Valued Guests,

Like you, all of us at Celebrity Cruises, both shipboard and shoreside, are deeply saddened by the events surrounding the tragic Costa Concordia accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the incident.

I debated about writing to you, as I wanted to be respectful of the investigation process and avoid adding to the speculation as to the cause or related failures. However, the concerns that have been raised about the safety of cruise ships compelled me to take the opportunity to share what an intense focus we have always placed on safety, and how rigorously we put that focus into practice every day.

Since Celebrity Cruises' founding more than 20 years ago, the safety of our guests and crew has always been our highest priority. The measures we take in the interest of safety are many, often exceeding regulatory requirements. It's a critical part of our ongoing commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in every aspect of our business.

Our guests see just a portion of our safety practices through the mandatory muster drills we conduct at the outset of every sailing. But our safety practices encompass so much more. In light of the Costa Concordia accident, we chose to post a summary of our safety practices on our web site. Simply go to, www.CelebrityCruises.com/Safety, and click on the tab labeled "Safety and Security". I encourage you to take a look, and to share the information with your family and friends.

Above and beyond what we've communicated there, you also may be interested to know that the leader of Celebrity Cruises' Captains is a highly experienced former officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, Greg Purdy. As the head of our Marine Operations Department, Greg's highest priority is to guide and monitor the safety of our fleet. His own experience at sea, including serving as Captain of a Coast Guard vessel, combined with his depth of knowledge of cruise ship safety, ensures that he and the entire Celebrity Marine team continue to build on our strong safety culture.

Our Captains across the Celebrity fleet hold degrees from some of the world's finest maritime institutions. You also may be surprised to know that, along with the Captain, every one of our ships has at least two other officers who hold the level of license required to serve as Captain of a cruise ship. Essentially, we have three people onboard every Celebrity ship who qualify as a Captain.

On average, each of Celebrity Cruises' Captains has 25 years of seagoing experience. Besides the training and drills we conduct onboard, our Captains and their bridge teams also participate in navigation simulator courses and other training. One of the cornerstones of our training is that everyone is expected to speak up if they detect something wrong, regardless of their rank. Our shipboard officers and our shoreside team spend a considerable amount of time focused on how we can continually improve our safety procedures.

Along with our vast in-house expertise, we also rely on a group of experts known as our Maritime Safety Advisory Board. The group was established in 2006 to help guide our safety program and provide critical thinking from the world's leading marine safety experts. The group includes former senior officials from the US and UK Coast Guards, as well as leadership from the academic world.

Our Chairman Richard Fain has said there's no such thing as perfect safety, but there is such a thing as perfect dedication to safety. And that?s what we strive for daily.

Whether you're a longtime cruiser, or have yet to sail with Celebrity, I hope you'll help us reinforce the fact that cruising continues to maintain the best safety record of any industry in the travel business.

Our highly skilled and dedicated crew members look forward to welcoming you onboard soon to provide you with an outstanding vacation experience. Meanwhile, I thank you for your continued support of our brand and our business.

    Sincerely,

    Dan Hanrahan President & CEO"

New River Cruise Ships Offer Large Suites & Balconies!

    viking_river_cruises.jpg

Recently Viking River Cruises announced their next generation of vessels (river cruise ships). What is exciting about this announcement is the accommodations offered onboard.

Viking River Cruises is planning to spend $120 million to build four ships, all planned for 2012. The top suites on these ships will measure 445 square feet. That's more than double what most accommodations on a river cruise offer. These suites will also feature a separate living room, bedroom, bathroom and private wrap-around balcony.

Take a look at these incredible pictures:

    View of the Wrap-Around Balcony:
    viking_river_cruise_new_ship.jpg

    Living Room
    viking_river_cruise_ship.jpg

Viking River Cruises chairman and CEO has stated the company is trying to appeal to people who have been on ocean ships. He says that people have become so used to balconies on ocean ships (that) they are demaning balconies when they go on river cruises.

I agree that people like the idea of floor-to-ceiling windows with a glass door that opens to fresh air and stunning views. If you have not taken a river cruise before it is considered a great value. Onboard the ship you have three meals a day included. While the ship is in port (sometimes two ports a day) a sightseeing tour is included.

The four new ships Viking River Cruises are building will be named Viking Freya, Viking Idun, Viking Njord and Viking Odin. Each ship is being built to have 95 staterooms. Here is a picture of a regular Balcony Stateroom:

    viking_river_cruising.jpg

To save space on these new ships they have removed the spa onboard. Instead they will offer passengers spa and health club packages at four and five star facilities while the ship is in port. Additionally, the ship'a main lounge will have four built in screens and surround sound which would allow the lounge multiple uses.

Bookings for these four new ships started on Friday, March 18th. Contact a Viking River Cruise Specialist at Cruising2Europe.com #1-800-738-8837 or click on the banner below.

    Allure Of The Seas

    allure_of_the_seas_cruise.jpg

I have just returned from the brand new, largest ship in the world, Allure of the Seas. If I had to sum it up in one word it would be WOW!

The Allure of the Seas is the second, and last, of the Oasis-class of ships. Here are some ship stats and fun facts! 225,000 gross tons; 1,187 feet long; 22 knots cruising speed; 6,296 guests; 24 guest elevators; 4 bow thrusters (each 7,500 horsepower); 30 feet draft; 208 feet wide; 16 passenger decks; 2,165 crew

The AquaTheater pool is 17.9 feet deep; the largest pool at sea. Allure of the Seas is 5 centimeters longer than her sister, the Oasis of the Seas. The Central Park Neighborhood is a living park at sea, with 12,175 plants, 62 vine plants, 56 trees and bamboo, some over 24 feet in length. 5,070,632 pounds of water in the swimming pools. 110,231 pounds of ice cubes made onboard every day. 4,700,000 pounds of fresh water consumption per 24 hours.

I will write a full review of the ship and post it here in a few days. In the meantime, I have just heard that Oprah made a big announcement last Friday regarding the ship.

On Friday, November 19th the Oprah Winfrey Show had Oprah's Ultimate Favourite Things 2010! 44 items were choosen, but the ultimate travel item was what stood out. Drum roll please . . .

    allure_of_the_seas_caribbean_cruise.jpg

Number 38 on the list is ALLURE OF THE SEAS.
All members of the studio audience for the taping of that episode received a 7 day cruise aboard the Allure of the Seas.

"Cruising, of course, is one of my favorite things," Oprah says. "And you are going to have the time of your lives."

    allure_of_the_seas_entertainment.jpg

Oprah is right. The Allure of the Seas is the cruise ship of all cruise ships. This massive ship contains the first-ever 3D movie theater at sea, a two-story dance floor, an ice skating rink, a zip line, a rock-climbing wall and its very own park.

Set sail on your own Allure of the Seas adventure beginning December of 2010. The ship will offer alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean cruise itineraries shown below. Pricing starts at just $719 US!

    eastern_caribbean_cruise.jpg

7 Day Eastern Caribbean Cruise Itinerary

Day 1 Fort Lauderdale, Florida Departs 5:00 PM

    Day 7 Cruising

Day 8 Fort Lauderdale, Florida Arrives 7:00 AM

    allure_of_the_seas_cruises.jpg

The Allure of the Seas is causing quite a wave in the cruise industry. In addition to being selected as one of Oprah's Favourite Things, NBC's Today broadcasted live from the ship with hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. Adam Sandler and Katie Holmes sailed onboard the Allure to film scenes for their upcoming movie, Jack & Jill. Four-time Grammy Award-winning artist Taylor Swift is scheduled to perform live onboard the ship on January 21, 2011.

Oasis of the Seas Hits Bad Weather!

    royal_caribbean_international.jpg

Lisa Bauer gives us an update from the Oasis of the Seas crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

"Well the big story on Oasis today is the weather. We hit some pretty severe storms, and the word from the bridge is that we have at least 60 mph winds fairly regular and some waves at least 49 feet! The amazing thing is how well the ship is handling the weather. I heard someone say this is the worst weather this ship would encounter in 20 years time. Lucky me that I have the privilege of being onboard to experience it. Surprisingly, I am usually very susceptible to sea sickness, but I attended all my meetings today, my staff meeting/conference calls with Miami, and basically was fine. I'm shocked. (Unfortunately, we were meant to open Cupcake Cupboard today, but the ladies from there were a little under the weather, so that is on the agenda for tomorrow now).

Last night we had the grand opening of the casino and had a Crew Casino Night. It was really fun. 100% of the profits from last night go to the crew welfare fund onboard. I've never seen a casino so busy. I definitely contributed at the craps table. We had some issues with the slots and the response time on the automated tickets, so we are working through that currently. We have another crew casino night on Saturday, so hopefully all will be working well. The casino on Oasis is 75% larger than Freedom Class, and the bar is really cool, because it isn't set up like a pass through bar as it is on other ships, but it is now the center of the room. I sat there for awhile last night and it was really a great gathering space for everyone to either meet, or to tell how much they won or lost. I was so thrilled with how engaging the casino staff was to everyone. They asked everyone?s name, and wished us all good luck, and always used our names when we were betting.

Today we also officially opened Vintages Wine Bar. There are so many cool things about Vintages on Oasis. In addition to the outdoor seating, we are also introducing a "tapas style" menu. Guests will be able to order from a very robust menu of small tasting at a la carte pricing. We had a sampling of all the offerings, and I must say that I had to cancel dinner plans tonight because the tastings were definitely enough food for dinner. Offerings range from Gazpacho to olives, to homemade guacamole to queso manchego to an amazing array of sweet delights for dessert. I would actually prefer this for a dinner for an evening, because the selection is so great. I would be remiss if I didn?t mention the wines at Vintages. Tonight several of us sat at the wine tasting table that features a very large bottle of Caymus special select Cabernet Sauvignon. Caymus created two of these bottles exclusively for Royal Caribbean. One is onboard, and the other will be part of a charity auction next fall. I couldn?t believe it when my team told me that the bottle onboard actually would hold almost 750 bottles (yes bottles) of this yummy Cab. I think sitting at this table enjoying a nice glass of wine will be a guest highlight for sure.

So while I did very well with the weather today, I am sorry to report I didn't make it to the gym. I tried to do my pilates with my exercise ball in the room, but to say that was disaster is an under statement. So let's see what tomorrow brings us. If it isn?t smoother sailing, I will have to go see my good friend Captain Bill and have a serious discussion.

Holland America Line had a float out ceremony for the Nieuw Amsterdam on Friday, October 30th. It was located at the Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard.

The godmother for the ship, Hana Alice Rijkaart, was at the ceremony. She is the wife of Pieter Rijkaart, the director of newbuilds for Holland America who just celebrated 45 years with Holland America Line.

    Oasis Has Set Sail!

    royal_caribbean_international.jpg

Lisa Bauer, the Senior VP of Hotel Operations for Royal Caribbean, is onboard the Oasis of the Seas. Over the next two weeks Lisa is onboard the Oasis of the Seas as the ship crosses the Atlantic to North America. Here's what she had to say today . . .

    oasis_of_the_seas.jpg

"We set sail! This morning at daybreak, we began our 12 day journey to our new home in Port Everglades. It was a postcard morning, not a cloud in the sky and the sunrise was stunning. It was really the perfect way for Turku, Finland to send off Oasis of the Seas. Everyone had chills, and it wasn't because it was -7C either.

The ship has a really nice vibe. The crew is getting to experience the various venues as we open them up. We plan to open a few outlets a day to give the crew time to practice. Today we officially opened up Sorrento's Pizzeria. It is a great location centrally located on Royal Promenade. There are some great new enhancements in Sorrento's. Guests will be able to "design" their own pizza and pick their own personal toppings. (I'm boring, I did extra cheese and Pepperoni). There are tons of toppings to choose from. In addition to being able to get the traditional slice, guests can also elect to get the whole pie. The other great new change is guests can order the entire pie and then take it with them to go as well. I can just imagine sitting on a balcony in Boardwalk watching the show in the AquaTheatre eating a pizza! The crew did great with the opening today. Lots of smiling faces, and no, I didn?t have the entire pizza, just 2 slices.

We also officially kicked off our daily leadership meeting today. All the division heads from shipboard and shoreside from hotel, marine, and newbuild are providing updates on how the days training went, results of stress tests, and how progress is being made in various areas. The teamwork is really great and these meetings will ensure we keep in close communication during the crossing.

We are opening up Dazzles tonight for the crew, so will have an update on how that went tomorrow!"

The First 30 Hours of Oasis of the Seas

    royal_caribbean_international.jpg

It's been a long wait, but today is the day Royal Caribbean takes over the Oasis of the Seas! That's right, the largest ship in the world is ready for cruising.

Below I've included included comments from Adam Goldstein (President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International) and Richard Fain (Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.). These two important men in the Royal Caribbean family of brands are onboard the ship right now and gave us these comments about their first 30 hours . . .

    Adam Goldstein:
"Ok, so I've been on Oasis of the Seas for 30 hours. In no order of importance or anything else, here are some observations:

  • A small group of management had dinner tonight at Giovanni's Table. I ate too much to be blogging right now. It was fantastic. Spending this kind of quality time with our colleagues is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the business. Royal Caribbean people are truly special.

  • We practiced the flag-changing ceremony tonight. The flag-changing will occur after the delivery papers are signed tomorrow. The practice consisted of listening to the national anthems of Finland, Norway the Bahamas and the United States multiple times, followed by the lead singer of Hairspray. I guess we're ready.

  • The fitness center is already open for workouts even though the ship isn't ours yet. 35 minutes into my workout someone shut the power off in the gym. That doesn't happen at home. Maybe we won't accept the ship.

  • Even though we can see our breath, which should not happen in the Caribbean, it is majestic in Central Park at night. And Central Park is still a partial construction site missing 12,000 plants and trees.

  • Usually an onboard announcement is introduced by the familiar ding-ding-ding that we now have in our television announcements. For unknown reasons the shipyard personnel testing the public address system have replaced the ding-ding-ding with something that sounds like a cross between a sick sheep and a drunk cow. Maybe this is one of the techniques for getting through a long dark winter.

  • Our perfectionist entertainment team is frustrated by our inability to get into the theater and start the rehearsals. We're trying to figure out other places onboard where the cast can rehearse while they wait for the theater. Studio B, an obvious alternative, is unavailable because the ice cast is constantly rehearsing in there. So a more imaginative venue is required.

  • I think Richard Fain must have said cabin instead of stateroom 50 times today. The question is, does he do this because i) he really thinks it should be cabin instead of stateroom, ii) he can't help himself, or iii) he knows it irritates me?

  • Kerriann Von Raesfield, our chef at 150 Central Park, is really special. She is a phenomenally talented chef on a world-class scale, yet she is the opposite of a prima donna. She is doing every startup task that all crew have to do, including all safety drills. She thought it was cool that she was trained today in how to fight a fire. If you haven't booked dinner at 150 Central Park, please go to Cruise Enhancements on our web site and make your reservation now.

  • I will be on a plane home tomorrow during all of Game 1 of the Phillies ? Yankees World Series. Unfortunately that plane is not JetBlue. This is provoking an allergic reaction throughout my body.

  • I don't care what you have heard, read or thought about Oasis of the Seas. It is better than that. Much better."

    Richard Fain:
"This morning we took delivery of Oasis of the Seas in a simple ceremony in the yard's main conference room.

I have waited six years to say that so I'll say it again. This morning we took delivery of Oasis of the Seas.

Few people ever get a chance to be involved in such a groundbreaking project. Few people ever get a chance to work with such remarkable, passionate and dedicated professionals. Few people ever get to see such an amazing undertaking overcome all hurdles and reach fruition. I have been blessed with the opportunity to be involved in many such building projects including SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, FREEDOM OF THE SEAS, and more recently CELEBRITY SOLSTICE. And I have had the chance to work with so many wonderful people to bring these amazing physical creations to life with a level of service, activities and amenities that distinguishes our company.

We are still not complete. That won't happen until all the systems become operational and we start to wow our first guests. I consider the operating systems and processes to be just as important as the physical plant and I am looking forward to seeing them in operation. But we have passed a crucial milestone and I couldn't be more pleased.

I am especially appreciative of all the people who have taken this project from a few unformatted ideas and simple sketches on paper and turned them into something bigger than any of us dared hope for. The architects, designers, engineers, artists, workers, crew, specialized experts, weird thinkers, directors and just plain enthusiasts all made this a successful collaboration and we owe them our grateful thanks. Of course, they are not done yet and I can't wait to see what they come up with next - whether the subject is new physical ideas or greater operating efficiencies.

In addition, I owe my family my thanks as always for their support, patience and understanding. They've put up with a lot, but they know that isn't going to change and I appreciate that they accept it anyway.

Now I am looking forward to Oasis' arrival in Ft. Lauderdale.

p.s. Allure is picking up steam too"

Yesterday Richard Fain had these additional comments about the ship:
"Today, I have fluctuated between exhaustion and exhilaration. . . . and exhilaration won.

My day ended with a walk through Central Park with Harri. First, we had a lovely dinner in Giovanni's Table and then finished our final pre-closing review with Adam and Brad Stein, our General Counsel. It was late, but neither of us was tired. Exhausted, yes. Tired, no. The construction was finished; the decisions were made; and the closing was nigh. There was nothing more to be done until the morning when the lawyers will say: "sign here."

And yet, there was one more thing to do. This was the first time Central Park has been completed (ex-plants) and the first time it has been lit at night. It was magical. The new art piece under the central bridge was in place and beautiful. The trellises were up and lit. And the walls of glass were glowing.

I was really surprised. I have always focused on the daytime view and not really paid enough attention to the nighttime look. Scott Wilson has harangued me about it, but I just never focused enough on it. Until tonight when I realized just how magical it is.

It was a good way to end the day."

As the first cruise onboard Oasis of the Seas draws nearer (December 1st, 2009 for the public) I know you're thinking how much does a cruise cost on this fabulous ship. Well, I'm here to tell you it's cheaper than you think! Take a look at these great deals . . .

    Oasis of the Seas Update

    royal_caribbean_international.jpg

Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced this morning on his blog that crew members are boarding the new Oasis of the Seas! That means the ship is almost ready . . . read on.

"Business is up at Turku airport. The last of our crew are arriving in Turku today and have been greeted by the first snow of the season. All told, the base crew will be 2,165 people; already over 2,000 crew members are onboard and are beginning to get oriented with the ship. Because the ship is so different and has so many features and amenities, our operating people have gone to extraordinary lengths to prepare this team in advance. That preparation includes a dedicated website for all incoming crew members, orientation booklets, classroom training, online training, etc. They even produced a book of puzzles including crosswords, word searches, etc. All the answers relate to special features of the ship.

And then there were the special training and orientations. As noted in my previous blog the performers for the Opal Theatre have done extensive rehearsals at our studios in Hollywood, Florida. The divers, acrobats and swimmers in the AquaTheatre have an even more daunting task. They have to prepare for a new set of shows in a venue - the AquaTheatre - which is a first of its kind anywhere. Over the last several months, they have gone through exhaustive rehearsals at the Swimming Hall of Fame located in Fort Lauderdale. Their shows are clearly going to be extraordinary, but it is difficult to rehearse when the actual theatre will be so different.

    oasis_of_the_seas.jpg

I know they are looking forward to being able to go onboard and experience the real thing. Compounding the problem is that it is cold in Finland and the AquaTheatre is an outdoor venue. That means they are limited in what they can practice until the ship gets into warmer waters early next month. We expect the AquaTheatre pool will be available for rehearsals starting next week which gives them little time to set up and practice their performances. Nevertheless, we hope to be able to give at least a small taste of the first shows during the preview cruises.

Work also continues here in Florida preparing for the ship's arrival and installation of the plant life."

Want to cruise on this amazing new ship? Book between October 24 and November 2 to receive $100 US Onboard Credit Per Stateroom! Applicable sailings include; December 1st for 4 nights, December 5th, 12th, 19th or 26th for 7 nights.

More News on Oasis of the Seas

    royal_caribbean_international.jpg

On October 12th Richard Fain, Chairman & CEO for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. wrote the following comments regarding the Oasis of the Seas on his blog. The ship is still scheduled to be built on time, however some of the shows at the AquaTheatre may not be shown on the first few cruises scheduled (which he calls shakedown cruises).

"While this seatrial was one of the most successful of any I can remember, there were items that arose, albeit mostly small ones. One related to the "sails" on the AquaTheatre. When we were designing the space, our micro-climate expert calculated that under certain wind conditions, we could have uncomfortable winds coming from the stern and he designed a set of canvas sheets we could raise as needed to block that wind.

His calculations proved accurate - the area was very comfortable regardless of the relative wind speed across the deck. Unfortunately, the sail canvas shrank and, while it was still big enough to protect our guests from the wind, the water features (fountains) weren?t so happy. In fact, one of the features is a water curtain that is quite lovely but was literally "blown away" by the wind under certain conditions. Fortunately, the fix is simple . . . we need to add a couple of small additional sails in strategic spots.

A bigger concern arose more recently in the main theatre. The theatre has an exceptional level of rigging for lights, sets and displays and last week our entertainment group inspected the equipment. And it failed. Upon inspection, it turned out that the quality of the steel work supporting the rigging equipment was just not strong enough for the task. It is fixable - by adding stiffeners and better welding - but the repairs are extensive. The problem runs the entire width of the stage and supports a great deal of equipment. The job is simple, but it is extensive and it needs to be done right.

The good news is that this repair work should be completed by the end of the week. The bad news is that the entertainers needed this time to set up and rehearse the shows. The schedule was already tight - there is little time after the space is ready to set up all the lighting, sound systems and special effects. The performers need a lot of time to rehearse such complex shows in such a dramatically new theatre. In fact, we often don?t even try to put on all our shows for the shakedown cruises to give more time for preparation. This time, however, we were so excited about the shows that we decided to push the envelope.

Unfortunately, as a result of this delay, it now appears likely that we will not be ready to perform all our shows during the early shakedown cruises. This is a real disappointment but the delay took us beyond our comfort level to make sure the shows are up to snuff. The entertainment group are confident they will be fully ready in time for the first revenue cruise, but are looking for alternatives for the shakedown cruises. I?m sure they will find ways to give a sense of how special these facilities and these shows are.

    Bummer!"

Oasis of the Seas . . . new photos!

The Oasis of the Seas is a brand new ship being built by Royal Caribbean International. If you haven't yet heard, this ship will be the largest at sea.

Royal Caribbean is excited to launch this ship in November 2009 to travel agents and then to the public in December. Its first cruise is December 1st for 4 nights roundtrip Fort Lauderdale, FL. Then it will offer weekly 7 days cruises to the Eastern Caribbean islands of St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Nassau/Bahamas.

They've just started adding furniture to the ship. I've included pictures below.

    H20 Zone:

    Video Arcade:

    Teen Dance Floor:

The ceiling is a mirror so look carefully! :)

    Science Lab (for the kids):
    oasis_of_the_seas3.jpg

Richard Fain is quoted saying this about the kids area onboard Oasis of the Seas "Our philosophy has two distinct objectives. Firstly, we try to make the activities so entertaining for kids and teens that they enjoy themselves. Our Adventure Ocean program has been incredibly successful. Once a kid samples it, we have a customer for life (and don?t kid yourself that the parent has any say).

The second objective is to have such great activities for the kids and teens that they have no interest in going to the adult areas. We do have adult areas onboard where only adults are admitted, but the best way to keep kids out the adult spaces is to have such wonderful dedicated kid spaces that they don?t want to go into the adult equivalents."

    Holland America Line's Eurodam

Holland America Line's brand new ship Eurodam is currently cruising Canada/New England and seen below it's in Gaspe, Quebec in think fog.

    holland_america_eurodam.jpg

I had the pleasure of touring this ship last November while it was in St. Thomas. I got to see all the public areas and then dined at the Tamarind Restaurant for lunch. It was such a treat! I've been on over 40 cruise vacations and have toured twice as many ships . . . I'm lucky because I live in Vancouver so I get the opportunity every summer! :) The Eurodam is one of my very favourite ships.

The ship is beautifully decorated and there were just so many things that impressed me. I think moving the Explorations cafe up to the top of the ship across from the Crow's Nest (forward) was a smart idea because it offers great views while you sit and sip your coffee, listen to music or read a book. I loved the cabana's by the pool. For a small fee you get celebrity treatment for a full or half day. The restaurants are incredible and I loved the modern decor.

One item I would point out is Category VT on Observation Deck. I did not get in to see the staterooms, but from outside of the ship I could see the balconies are small. It's just a step out, no table or chair to sit on.

    Holland America Line's Nieuw Amsterdam

    holland_america_line.jpg

Holland America Line is currently building the Nieuw Amsterdam. It's inaugural date is scheduled for July 4, 2010; only 281 days away.

New photos have been released of the ship in Fincantieri. Below you'll see the azipods are now in place. They are first positioned, then lifted by hydraulic jacks and bolted to the ship from the inside. The propellers will be next to be hoisted and installed.

Below are sections of the Lido Dome, which is a retractable roof above the pool. As you can see, the come dome sections arrived untreated. They will be painted inside the shipyard and then added to the ship.

    nieuw_amsterdam_pool_roof.jpg

Now they're painted and the ceiling windows have been installed. I think they're ready to be installed! They will be placed on Panorama Deck 10.

Book Now for the Best Cruise Deals!

    carnival_cruises.jpg

Carnival Corporation today reported better than expected earnings for the third quarter of 2009. They state it's attributed to rebounding prices and hinted that pricing will continue to bounce back.

The parent company of Carnival Cruises, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Costa Cruises, Cunard Line and The Yachts of Seabourn says it earned $1.1 billion on revenues of $4.1 billion during the quarter a year ago.

CEO Micky Arison states "Given the global economic environment earning more than $1 billion this quarter was quite an achievement and is a testament to the power of our global brands." He also states "Our net income for the quarter exceeded our previous guidance as a result of better than expected pricing on close-in bookings worldwide during the seasonally strong summer period."

    carnival_cruise_ship.jpg

Late last year cruise lines began dropping prices in reaction to a sharp slowdown in bookings brough on by the economic crisis. The prices for many cruise itineraries remained unusually low through the winter and into spring. However, lately bookings have been bouncing back which has allowed cruise line to begin slowly raising the rates.

Carnival says booking volumes for the remained of 2009 and the first half of 2010 are 19% ahead of a year ago, this since June.

"While the environment for travel remains challenging . . . consumers are responding to the attractice pricing and product offerings our brands have in the marketplace, " states Arison. "We have begun to experience an extension in the booking window as consumers realize the best value by booking early."

I've included some of these great deals below. Call a travel agent to book a cruise vacation now at #1-800-738-8837.

New Pictures of Oasis of the Seas

    royal_caribbean_international.jpg

The Oasis of the Seas is the newest ship by Royal Caribbean International. It is currently being built in Turku, Finland. It's first scheduled departure is December 1st, 2009 offering a 4 night Labadee Extravaganza Cruise. However the ship is scheduled for a later October delivery and will offer multiple cruises in November for travel agents only.

The Oasis of the Seas is currently 95% complete. Below I've included two of the newest pictures of the ship.

    oasis_of_the_seas.jpg

    oasis_of_the_seas.jpg

Here are some statistics about Oasis of the Seas:

1.7 million ? hours spent designing the ship.

8,000 ? person years working on the Oasis.

15 ? architectural firms involved in Oasis-class design design.

3,000 ? miles of cable on the Oasis.

    2,300 ? workers still onboard.

2,160 ? crew members that will staff the Oasis.

95% ? percentage pulled from existing Royal Caribbean ships.

2.5 years ? average experience of each crew member.

5,000 ? cumulative years of customer service on Oasis.

    24 ? restaurants on Oasis.

    37 ? bars.

    13 ? retail outlets.

12,000 ? Number of plants that will be transplanted onto the grounds of the Boardwalk neighborhood of the ship.

30,000 ? weight of cars equivalent to the weight of Oasis? hull.

650,000 ? liters of paint used on Oasis.

2.4 million ? square footage of the Oasis

150 ? suites on the Oasis.

2,700 ? deck chairs on the ship.

6 and 3 ? maximum and minimum number of trips up and down per hour the Rising Tide bar can make.

21 ? depth in feet of the diving pool in the AquaTheater.

139,000 ? gallons of water in the AquaTheater pool, more than all the pools on the Freedom of the Seas combined.

There are so many activities on the Oasis of the Seas and with 5,400 passengers onboard one may think there will be line-ups for activities, dining, etc. Royal Caribbean's senior vice president of hotel operations has been quoted regarding passenger flow on the Oasis, saying it will be the best at sea. Here are some of the new innoations.

Activities like Flowrider (surfing at sea), rock-climbing and zip-line passengers will be able to sign a universal sports waiver when they check-in for the cruise. This is instead of signing an individual form for each activity.

Onboard Oasis of the Seas when you purchase a drink, cappuccino or other a la carte items a waiter will use a handheld machine that the guest will sign. That means the end of signed receipts and paper.

A show ticketing system is also expected to cut down on lines and crowds. Guests will be able to pre-reserve shows at each entertainment venue before they get on the ship. Pre-reserving can also be done from the TV in all staterooms.

Royal Caribbean has also announced that the embarkation process on port days will be faster because the security check will be done before passengers board the ship. The Oasis of the Seas plans to use face-recognition technology with each cruise keycard.

These new features will eventually be seen on the entire Royal Caribbean fleet...once the bugs are worked out of course! View more details about Oasis of the Seas cruise vacations here.

    diamondprincess.jpg

    WEDDING'S AT SEA

Up until the time Princess Cruises launched its weddings program at sea in 1998, no such ceremonies has been conducted...in more than 100 years! Princess captains (providing the ship has a Bermuda registry) are the only captains authorized for weddings at sea. And Princess Cruises is the only cruise line that offers this!

Hundreds of couples get married each year by Princess captains. It is offers in such waters around the globe as the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Alaska and more! Harborside ceremonies in embarkation ports or onshore weddings are also available in select ports of call.

Every wedding ceremony package at sea with Princess Cruises includes: live music, champagne, bridal bouquet and matching boutonniere, a photo package with album, wedding cake, souvenir wedding certificate, and the services of the ships onboard wedding coordinators. They make sure everything runs smoothly!

The couple can customize their wedding with a variety of items. They can add a reception with food and beverages, floral, photography and even video. Plus, pre- and post-ceremony spa packages are also available.
