Holland America Line Names Actress Marlee Matlin as Godmother to ms Noordam

Seattle, WA (December 14, 2005) – Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin will be godmother to Holland America Line’s new Vista-class ship, the ms Noordam, in a ceremony dedicating the ship in New York City on February 22, 2006.

“Marlee Matlin is an accomplished actress, a generous woman in support of those in need, and a driven advocate for causes that benefit our society,” said Stein Kruse, president and chief executive officer, Holland America Line. “We are honored to have her as the godmother for the ms Noordam and launch this Vista-class vessel into service.”

Matlin catapulted onto the big screen in her debut film Children of a Lesser God (1986), winning the Academy Award for Best Actress and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama. The Oscar-winning actress has since starred in 19 films and several television programs. Among her many television appearances are Emmy-nominated roles on CBS’ Picket Fences, NBC’s Law & Order: SVU, ABC’s the Practice and NBC’s Seinfeld. She has also guest starred on ABC’s Desperate Housewives, HBO’s The Larry Sanders Show, the ABC comedy Spin City, NBC’s ER, and CBS’ Judging Amy. She currently stars opposite Martin Sheen as pollster Joey Lucas on NBC’s Emmy Award-winning series “The West Wing.”

An advocate of charitable work, Matlin serves as national celebrity spokesperson for the American Red Cross. She also worked on behalf of closed captioning and, in 1990, was instrumental in getting Congress to pass federal legislation requiring televisions manufactured in the United States be equipped with closed captioning technology. She serves on several boards of charitable organizations, including The Children Affected By AIDS Foundation and Easter Seals. In 2002, she published a novel for children entitled “Deaf Child Crossing.” Two sequels are scheduled for 2006 and 2007 by Simon and Shuster.

Matlin lives in the greater Los Angeles area with her husband and four children.

“Through the many paths I’ve taken over the last 20 years, this experience will be brand new to me,” said Matlin. “I’m proud to be launching a beautiful and trend-setting ship that provides access to everyone to explore the world.”

ms Noordam Newest in Series of Exclusive Vista-class Premium Vessels

The ms Noordam is the fourth in a series of 81,769-ton Vista class ships. The ms Noordam will showcase all the service and product enhancements of the line’s $225 million Signature of Excellence initiative, including the addition of an Explorations Café — a cyber-coffee house powered by The New York Times — expanded Pinnacle Grill, and a new Pinnacle Bar.

Other major Signature of Excellence attributes will include the innovative Culinary Arts Center presented by Food & Wine Magazine, where culinary experts provide cooking demonstrations and intimate classes in the new state-of-the-art onboard show kitchen; an expanded Greenhouse Spa and Salon; and upgraded youth facility that includes the teens-only Loft. Special amenities add to the ambience of the Noordam and feature plush Euro-top Mariner Beds, deluxe waffle/terry cloth robes, flat panel TVs, dvd players, make-up mirrors with halo lighting, massage shower heads, professional hair dryers, and complimentary fruit basket.

Celebrity Cruises Leaps Toward New Century

diamondprincess.jpg

CELEBRITY CRUISES LEAPS TOWARD NEW CENTURY

Miami - (December 22, 2005 ) - Celebrity Cruises has made a giant leap toward transforming a century into a millennium in just five weeks. The line has signed with Fincantieri in Palermo, Italy, to handle the significant revitalization of its 77,713-ton Century cruise ship in 2006.

The approximately $55-million makeover designed to incorporate on Century a variety of Celebrity's most popular Millennium-class attributes marks the line's most extensive refurbishment to-date, and the first time the company has worked directly with Fincantieri. The Century project will be the largest cruise ship modification to-date for the Palermo yard.

Century will emerge on June 2, 2006, from a five-week drydock period at Fincantieri with 314 new verandas, 14 new suites, 10 new staterooms ranging from inside to veranda category, an expanded number of ConciergeClass category staterooms, a new specialty restaurant, and a series of features and amenities that typify the line's acclaimed Millennium-class fleet. The contract with Fincantieri involves Century's major structural modifications, new verandas and associated stateroom interiors, new staterooms on deck 12, and regular drydock work. Other interior outfitting contractors also will handle portions of the work.

"This is an absolutely phenomenal project," said Celebrity's President Dan Hanrahan. "Century already is an incredible ship, ranked among the top 10 in the world. Our goal now is to align the ship even more with our Millennium-class ships, to offer every Celebrity guest a consistently extraordinary experience across the fleet."

Fincantieri's Chief Executive Officer Giuseppe Bono said, "We are most pleased to have acquired this order from Celebrity Cruises. This further strengthens the growth strategy which Fincantieri has identified in the business area of ship repairs, refurbishments and conversions aimed at providing ship owners with a full range of services, and able to accompany the vessel throughout its entire working life with the maintenance of high quality standards."

Among the highlights of Celebrity's "new" Century are:

New Culinary Delights
A new specialty restaurant will present the elegant dining experience praised by guests on Celebrity's four Millennium-class ships, with a menu designed by Celebrity's longtime culinary and wine consultant, Master Chef Michel Roux. The venue, yet to be themed, will follow the style of Celebrity's "Olympic," "SS United States," "Normandie" and "Ocean Liners" restaurants, which presented the industry's first tableside cooking, carving and flambé.

The "Casual Dining Boulevard" on the lido deck will be expanded to include a Sushi Café, made-to-order Pasta and Pizza Bar, and small ice cream parlor, along with buffet breakfasts, themed lunches, and dinner service with a casual dress code.

Fans of light, healthy spa cuisine will find what they're seeking in a new Spa Café inspired by the venue of the same name on Celebrity's Millennium-class ships.

For evening cocktails, a sophisticated new Martini Bar will offer Celebrity's famed menu of more than 30 versions of the popular libation, while outside on the aft deck, a new bandstand and bar complete with tapas carts will offer the ultimate setting for romantic sailaways at sunset, complete with live music.

Enhanced Enrichment Opportunities
"High Seas Computing" will find a home in a newly dedicated space offering Internet access and courses ranging from basic computer use to web site creation to digital photography.

As on the Millennium-class fleet, Century's new art gallery will join the array of trendy boutiques in "The Boulevard," allowing art aficionados to purchase one-of-a-kind works.

Century's "Fun Factory" children's area will be expanded, with a new teen room added to offer a variety of new activities geared exclusively toward that age group.

Celebrity's exclusive "Acupuncture at Sea" program will have a permanent home on Century as it does on the four Millennium-class ships, offering guests acupuncture treatments, therapies and enrichment lectures by licensed doctors of Oriental Medicine.

Century's AquaSpa operated by the elite Elemis Ltd. will be expanded significantly to allow for a number of new features yet to be announced.

Enticing Itineraries
Following its revitalization, Celebrity's "new" Century will set sail on a series of 12-night Baltic and 10- and 11-night Mediterranean sailings, a 13-night "Best of Europe" voyage, and a seven-night Norwegian Fjords cruise.

Century also will be one of the first Celebrity ships to offer short cruises from the cruise capital of the world, the Port of Miami, beginning in November 2006. The ship will present four- and five-night roundtrip Caribbean cruises through April 2007, offering travelers with more limited vacation time the opportunity to experience what the award-winning Celebrity brand has to offer.

Celebrity Cruises offers a comfortably sophisticated, upscale cruise experience with highly personalized service, authentic five-star dining, and extraordinary attention to detail. Its nine ships and the line's service, cuisine and spas consistently dominate top travelers' surveys. Celebrity sails in Alaska, Bermuda, California, the Caribbean, Europe, the Galapagos Islands, Hawaii, the Mexican Riviera, the Panama Canal and South America.

Carnival Corporation & PLC Annouonces Four-Ship Deal With Italian Shipbuilder Fincantieri Worth More Than $2 Billion

diamondprincess.jpg

CARNIVAL CORPORATION & PLC ANNOUNCES FOUR-SHIP DEAL WITH ITALIAN SHIPBUILDER FINCANTIERI WORTH MORE THAN $2 BILLION

MIAMI (Dec. 14, 2005) – Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK) today announced it has reached an agreement with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the construction of four new cruise ships worth more than $2 billion.

The agreement calls for the construction of four new vessels, one each for Holland America Line, Carnival Cruise Lines, Princess Cruises and Costa Crociere, along with options for two additional vessels, one each for Carnival Cruise Lines and Holland America Line.

The four new ships will add a collective 11,756 lower berths to the cruise operator’s fleet. Two of the orders have been placed in U.S. dollars and two others are in euros.

According to Carnival Corporation & plc Chairman and CEO Micky Arison, the agreement extends Carnival Corporation & plc’s newbuilding program through 2009 while enabling the company to execute its strategy of expanding its North American and European brands.

“Fincantieri constructs some of the world’s most beautiful and technically advanced ships and this agreement enables us to expand our core North American and European brands at very competitive prices considering today’s unfavorable U.S. dollar/euro ratio,” he said.

The new ships and options include:

  • A 2,044-passenger ship which will be the largest ever constructed for North American premium operator Holland America Line. With an estimated all-in cost of $450 million, the 86,000-ton Panamax vessel will be built at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard. The ship is expected to enter service in summer 2008. There is also an option for a sister ship scheduled to debut in spring 2010.

  • A 3,100-passenger ship for North American premium brand Princess Cruises set to debut in fall 2008. A sister to the Emerald Princess, the 116,000-ton vessel will be built at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard at an approximate all-in cost of $570 million.

  • A 3,608-passenger cruise ship for Carnival Cruise Lines representing the largest vessel ever constructed for the contemporary North American operator. The 130,000-ton vessel, to be built at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard at an estimated all-in cost of €560 million, is expected to enter service in fall 2009. There is also an option for a sister ship scheduled to enter service in summer 2010.

  • A 3,004-passenger ship for Genoa, Italy-based Costa Crociere expected to debut in summer 2009. A sister ship to the Costa Concordia, the 112,000-ton vessel will have an estimated all-in cost of €485 million and will be built at Fincantieri’s Sestri shipyard.
  • Including the four new vessels, Carnival Corporation & plc’s capacity growth for 2008 and 2009 is now expected to be 8.2 percent and 6.4 percent, respectively. The company’s order book now includes 16 new ships, 13 of which are being constructed by Fincantieri.

Commented Fincantieri Chief Executive Officer Giuseppe Bono, “This agreement further demonstrates the excellent working relationship that exists between industry leaders Carnival Corporation & plc and Fincantieri. Carnival Corporation & plc operates some of the world’s most successful and recognizable cruise brands and we are delighted that the company has entrusted Fincantieri with nearly all of its newbuilding projects.”

Silversea Ships Set To Showcase Collection Of Works By Master Sculptor Francesco Messina

SILVERSEA SHIPS SET TO SHOWCASE COLLECTION OF WORKS BY MASTER SCULPTOR FRANCESCO MESSINA

38 Sculptures to be Displayed Fleetwide by Mid-2006

(Ft. Lauderdale, FL -- November 16, 2005) The all-suite, ultra-luxury ships of Silversea Cruises will soon feature a collection of 38 bronze statues, figurines, and sculptural reliefs by the acclaimed Italian sculptor Francesco Messina. The line has just completed the first installation of 12 pieces aboard Silver Shadow. Silver Whisper will unveil its collection in mid-December, and the balance of the artwork will be rolled out aboard the rest of the fleet by mid-2006.

"We feel very privileged to be able to display these beautiful works of art aboard our ships," said Lillo Mazzetti, Silversea's director of brand management and global marketing. "Messina's sculptures represent the cultural and artistic spirit of Italy. We are pleased to offer our guests a chance to experience this artist's personal vision and perspective, and provide a further product enhancement that gives our guests a deeper appreciation of our company's Italian heritage."

Francesco Messina was born in Sicily in 1900, but spent most of his life in northern Italy. Described as a classicist and realist, his works rarely deviated from the natural human form. His sculpture is exhibited throughout the world. Among his more famous private commissions are the bust of Giacomo Puccini for La Scala Opera House and the statue of Pius XII in St. Peter's Basilica. His commitment and passion for his art kept him working into his nineties. Messina died in 1995.

The Messina Foundation was recently established to promote and protect the artist's works. The foundation, based in Milan, maintains a complete archive of his sculptures, as well as a collection of letters and writings, and has created the International Award for Young Sculptors, as Messina wanted.

Silversea Cruises is recognized as an innovator in the luxury segment, offering guests large-ship amenities aboard four intimate vessels, Silver Cloud, Silver Wind, Silver Shadow, and Silver Whisper, all designed to offer an atmosphere of conviviality and casual elegance. For the ninth year, Silversea was named "Number One" small-ship line in the 2005 "Readers' Choice" survey conducted by Condé Nast Traveler magazine. For the sixth time, Silversea was selected "World's Best" small-ship line in the 2004 Travel + Leisure readers' poll.

MIAMI - (December 1, 2005) - Today, NCL Corporation (“NCL”) announced that it has partnered with the Youth Environmental Programs, Inc. to offer the Officer Snook Water Pollution Program onboard its ships. The Officer Snook program, which launched on Norwegian Jewel this week and will be offered exclusively on all NCL and NCL America ships in 2006, seeks to educate young people about the importance of clean water, and the affects of marine pollution and ways to prevent it.

The Officer Snook Water Pollution Program is a long term water pollution prevention program, emphasizing youth education and involvement. The mascot for the program – “Officer Snook” -- is a cartoon fish symbolizing the program’s protection of the water environment worldwide.

Elements of the program are incorporated into the NCL Kids Crew and include activities for kids of all ages. For example for kids’ ages 2 to 5, there will be an Undersea Hospital, story-telling, coloring books and games. For pre-teens there are crafts, a simulated “Beach Clean Up” activity, a “Catch or Release” game identifying endangered species and an environmental poster contest.

Beginning in January 2006, NCL will add a teen component that will allow high school students to earn between 1 – 5 community service hours depending on their level of involvement in the program. These hours may be used at the teen’s school as part of their community service allotment.

“NCL is committed to the environment and to the oceans in which we sail and this is a fun way for our youngest passengers to learn about the importance of the ocean and its protection,” said Andy Stuart, NCL Corporation’s executive vice president of marketing, sales and passenger services. “This is a unique program to the cruise industry and we are proud to be a partner in sharing this important initiative.”

The Officer Snook Water Pollution Program was started in 1993 by Jennifer Sevin, then a Florida high school senior, to educate local elementary school students about water pollution.

“Youth Environmental Programs and the Officer Snook Water Pollution Program are pleased to form a partnership with NCL,” said Jennifer Sevin, Youth Environmental Programs’ president. “By incorporating the Officer Snook Program on board their ships, NCL demonstrates a commitment to environmental protection by helping to educate others about the causes, effects and solutions to marine pollution.”

The Officer Snook Water Pollution program has grown nationally since its inception in 1994. To date, more than five million students in grades pre-K through 12 have participated in an Officer Snook presentation or related activity.

The United States Coast Guard, as part of its national “Sea Partners Campaign” conducts the Officer Snook Program through 44 USCG Marine Safety Offices.

The program is the recipient of the 1995 Governor’s Environmental Education Award of Florida and the 1995 Keep Florida Beautiful Award.

NCL Corporation ("NCL") is an innovative cruise company headquartered in Miami, Florida, with a fleet of 15 ships in service and under construction. The corporation oversees the operations of Norwegian Cruise Line, NCL America, and Orient Lines. CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES NAMED A ‘BEST CRUISE VALUE’ BY OCEAN & CRUISE NEWS FOR 12TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR

Earns Top Honors in High Superior/Four Star-Plus, Short Cruise Categories, Places Second in Overall Value Rankings

MIAMI (Dec 1, 2005) – For the 12th consecutive year, Carnival Cruise Lines has been named a “best cruise value” by Ocean & Cruise News, the monthly publication of the World Cruise & Ocean Liner Society, comprised of highly experienced cruise enthusiasts.

Carnival received top honors in the High Superior Four Star-Plus Category and was named the “Best Short Cruise Value” in the publication’s annual “best value” awards, which recognize those cruise lines that provide a high quality product at the best prices.

In the overall value rankings, Carnival Cruise Lines placed second behind its sister company, premium operator Holland America Line but ahead of other premium lines. The awards are featured in the Nov. 15, 2005, issue of Ocean & Cruise News.

Carnival, which quietly launched a product improvement program several years ago, was acknowledged for its upgraded dining and service standards, high quality entertainment, spacious accommodations, interesting itineraries, and affordable pricing.

“Carnival just continues to improve in all key areas of service, dining and entertainment. Its product upgrades have really paid off for the line and its passengers.

All this, combined with moderate prices, makes Carnival a real value winner. The line’s product upgrades have not only moved the Carnival product up in the overall value rankings but also forced every cruise line above them, even the most deluxe, to keep a watchful eye over their shoulder,” said Ocean & Cruise News Editor Tom Cassidy.

Commented Carnival President and CEO Bob Dickinson, “Earning a ‘best value’ award 12 years in a row from an esteemed organization such as the World Cruise & Ocean Liner Society speaks volumes about the tremendous value that a ‘Fun Ship’ cruise provides. Carnival has invested significant resources in product upgrades – from the luxurious new ‘Carnival Comfort Bed’ sleep system to an exclusive alliance with world-renowned French master chef Georges Blanc and these awards reaffirm our commitment to providing guests with high quality vacations at affordable prices.”

Carnival is the largest and most popular cruise line in the world, with a fleet of 21 “Fun Ships” operating voyages ranging from three to 16 days in length to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, New England, Europe and Bermuda.

The line currently has two “Fun Ships” on order – the 110,000-ton Carnival Freedom set to debut in Feb. 2007 and an as-yet-unnamed 112,000 vessel scheduled to enter service in spring 2008.

MSC Cruises Brings European-Style Cruising Back To New York City!

    diamondprincess.jpg

MSC CRUISES BRINGS EUROPEAN-STYLE CRUISING BACK TO NYC

NEW YORK, NY (Nov. 29, 2005) – Start spreading the news – MSC Cruises is bringing sophisticated European-style cruising back to New York.

When the Italian-owned MSC Cruises MSC Lirica begins year-round sailings from New York City in April 2007, it will mark the first time in several decades that a European-owned cruise line will homeport year-round in the Big Apple.

“It has been decades since vacationers have been able to sail from New York on a European-owned cruise line with the classic style and elegance that only the Italians know how to present,” says Richard E. Sasso, president and CEO of MSC Cruises (USA), who added the line will offer Bermuda, Canada/New England and Caribbean itineraries.

"This is an exciting day for New York City and our booming cruise industry," said
Andrew M. Alper, president of the New York City Economic Development Corporation. "MSC Cruises’ decision to come to New York City is the latest evidence that the investments we are making in our cruise terminals are helping transform the City into an even more attractive place for cruise lines.

“On behalf of Mayor Bloomberg and all of New York City, I welcome MSC Cruises to the Big Apple."

“Homeporting a ship in New York makes MSC Cruises ‘True Italian Signature’ style of cruising readily accessible to residents of the Northeast. MSC Cruises’ Italian/European style will be right at home in this, the crosswords of the world,” says Sasso.

With seven ships currently in service and newbuilds MSC Musica and MSC Orchestra joining the fleet in 2006 and 2007, respectively, MSC Cruises announced plans to add more and signed for its two largest ships this past week. MSC Musica and MSC Orchestra will be followed by the 133,500-ton MSC Fantasia in 2008 and MSC Serenata in 2009, bringing the number of ships in the line’s fleet to 11 by 2009.

“This is a very exciting time for MSC Cruises,” says Sasso. “With grand new ships on the horizon and year-round sailings from what is unquestionably the capital of the world, MSC Cruises reaffirms its position as a global player in the cruise industry.”

MSC Cruises offers itineraries in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, South America and the Caribbean, as well as transatlantic sailings. Each itinerary features the out-of-theordinary port calls for which MSC Cruises has become known.

No matter what the sailing region, MSC Cruises offers guests an authentic
Italian/European cruise experience, from the superb cuisine featuring regional Italian specialties (as well as perennial All-American favorites) to the warmth and generosity of the Italian officers and international crew and the European-style entertainment that is suitable for the entire family.

Onboard, guests enjoy swimming pools, mini-golf, casino, disco, theatre, health center (complete with beauty salon, gym, steam room, sauna and relaxation area), children’s area, video game room, and Internet center.

MSC Cruises is no stranger to New York City. The U.S. headquarters of the cruise line’s parent company, Mediterranean Shipping Company, are based in New York City and recently marked the 20th year serving the U.S. trade market.

    Information About MSC Cruises:
Backed by one of the world’s largest container shipping companies, MSC Cruises USA has emerged as a fast-rising star in the European-style premium cruise market. The company launched a $3 billion expansion program in 2003 with the introduction of the new MSC Lirica in 2003. MSC Cruises added the MSC Armonia (built in 2001) to its fleet in spring of 2004 and the new MSC Opera debuted in June 2004. The line purchased the MSC Sinfonia in July 2004 (the ship began cruising in March 2005). Two 2,600-passenger ships are on order, with MSC Musica slated to debut in spring 2006 and MSC Orchestra in 2007. The line has also contracted for two post-Panamax ships; the MSC Fantasia is expected to debut in 2008 and the MSC Serenata in 2009.
