Catching The Cruise Wave

CATCHING THE CRUISE WAVE: SHIPS ARE FILLING FAST – SO BOOK NOW WHILE SAVINGS ARE STILL HOT!

New York - It’s a new year. And a new Wave Season – that time of year from January to March when cruise lines reel in their largest ‘wave’ of bookings for the year. “This year’s Wave Season is already off to a hot start,” said Terry L. Dale, president and chief executive officer of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). CLIA comprises 19 leading North American cruise lines with more than 150 ships and 16,500 member travel agencies, making it the travel industry’s largest association based on agency membership.

“CLIA cruise lines are reporting bookings that are even stronger than pre-9/11 Wave Season levels. Ships are also filling up fast. European cruises represent a particular value versus land-based travel in Europe because travel expenses including food, lodging and entertainment are fixed in dollars,” said Dale.

“Those travelers who want to choose from the very best itineraries and reserve the best staterooms should book as soon as possible,” he added.

To officially celebrate the launch of the Wave Season, and to further stimulate bookings for the three-month period, CLIA cruise lines are offering a wide range of attractive promotions to tempt travelers to sample life on the high seas. Several CLIA lines are offering promotions that feature attractive cabin-upgrade offers as well as sensational savings on cruise fares. (See attachment for a sampling of what some CLIA-member lines are offering.)

“In the end, it’s all about the early bird catching the worm,” said Dale. “Travel agents need to stress to clients that they shouldn’t wait and hope for the best cabins and itineraries. Our advice is to get clients booked now – to avoid ‘missing the boat.’ ”

CRYSTAL CRUISES Crystal Cruises is offering up to 20% additional savings on its three ships, representing up to $500 per person, on select spring itineraries to the Mediterranean and Alaska when travel is booked by Jan. 31.
